Ylivieska commynity college

Owned by the Town of Ylivieska and supervised by the Finnish National Board of Education, Ylivieska Community College is an educational institution covering Ylivieska, Alavieska and Sievi.

In accordance with the Act on Liberal Adult Education, Ylivieska Community College arranges education with the goal of promoting educational equality based on the values and ideals of liberal adult education. The education provided emphasises languages, arts and crafts, information technology and subjects that promote health and well-being. The College arranges Finnish language and cultural education for immigrants. Additionally, the College arranges musical education for children and young people, as well as basic education in visual arts, theatrical expression, literary art and arts and crafts. The Community College can also arrange educational support or closely related development and service activities.

Students can take part in any study group in the Ylivieska, Alavieska and Sievi area.

As a rule, the GROUP SIZE is at least 7 attending students and at least 5 students in follow-up language groups, social subjects and music. A new study group will not be established unless there are at least 12 preliminary registrations (8 in music groups and 8 to 10 in small village study groups, depending on the size of the village).

CERTIFICATES Upon request, every study group will provide you with an attendance certificate, provided you have attended at least 75% of the lessons. The delivery time for the certificate is three weeks. The certificate fee is 20 € for studies that took place more than two years ago and 50 € for studies that took place more than five years ago.

PRELIMINARY REGISTRATIONS are binding and required for all study groups.

Your PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER must be provided when registering for studies. The personal identification number ensures the correctness of the customer’s information in matters related invoicing and certificates, for example. Preliminary registrations are carried out by phone or through the website. Online registration uses a secure connection. Students are accepted primarily in the order of registration. If a study group is full, the remaining applicants are placed on a waiting list and invited to join if cancellations occur. In study groups for practical subjects that have been in operation for several years, priority is given to new students if there are more registrations than vacancies in the group.

NOTE: Preliminary registrations are binding and any cancellations must be made at least 5 days before the beginning of the course. Otherwise we will charge the full course fee. This applies to season pass holders as well.

FEES are staggered based on the duration of the teaching and any additional expenses, and the prices are stated for each course. No one is exempted from fees and no fees are refunded except in cases where the teaching has not begun at all.

Public lectures, unless otherwise stated, and College exhibitions are free.
If you know you will participate in several study groups, you can purchase a €150 season pass that entitles you to attend unlimited courses during the entire year. Invoiced course fees cannot be exchanged for a season pass.

However, the season pass does not cover basic arts education or courses where it is stated that season passes are not eligible, or courses that cost €150 or more.

A printout of your unemployment information or a student card entitles you to a 50% discount off the course fees. Unemployed persons and full-time students must visit the Community College office (Valtakatu 4, floor 3, open weekdays 12 noon–4 pm) in person to verify their right to the discount no later than after the first meeting of the group and before the second meeting. The discount does not cover season passes.

Tyky and Smartum vouchers, as well as exercise vouchers issued by the Town of Ylivieska, can be used as payment for exercise-related courses. If you use the aforementioned vouchers for paying a course fee, the vouchers must be delivered in person to the Community College office by the end of September. After a course fee has been invoiced, the vouchers are no longer eligible as payment for the course.

5 € one-time token for group exercise lessons marked with the letter P. You can purchase one-time tokens at the Community College office. The tokens are collected by the teacher at the beginning of the lesson. The tokens are valid for the autumn and spring semesters and are not redeemable. You can also purchase tokens as gifts.

Textbooks and other course materials are not included in the course fees.

Up to two lessons during a year-long course and one lesson during a semester-long course can be cancelled due to the teacher’s illness or other valid reason without refunds to the students.

Fees can be paid to the bank or the Town Hall exchange. Note: The receipt for the course fee payment also serves as your personal study card and cannot be transferred to another person. Unpaid course fees will be handled by a collection agency.

STUDENT INSURANCE The College does not acquire insurance for its students, so you must make arrangements for your own free time insurance.

YLIVIESKA COMMUNITY COLLEGE reserves to right to make changes.

All students at the College are members of the STUDENT ASSOCIATION.
The Association organises parties and work exhibitions at the College, as well as various social evenings and trips.
The President of the Student Association is Armi Parviainen, tel. +358 (0)40 8478 071.
